Openness is a big part of modern adoption, and a topic which is covered in both our adoption preparation training and throughout the application process. Talking to children about their adoption is hugely important for a child’s sense of identity and to help them attach to a new family. We support adopters and their wider families and friends to create an open and honest environment and to understand the importance of openness in adoption.
We also offer advice on talking about adoption with children at different ages.
Here adopter Andy tells us about how he talks to his sons about adoption and how their understanding has changed over the years.
