We recently held our very first Adopt Coast to Coast family event at Walby Farm near Carlisle! It was the ideal opportunity to get out and about since Covid restrictions have been lifted and thank adopters from across Cumbria, Durham and Sunderland for their support since our launch in April.
Around 40 families from across Cumbria, Durham and Sunderland joined us for a day of fun down the farm for a day packed full of animals, play parks, soft play and activities.
Our family event was a brilliant way for friends to catch up and for adopters to meet new people too. This was particularly important for those who have adopted during Covid, with some using the opportunity to meet fellow adopters for the very first time.
Loved it thank you! It was such fun, suited children (and adults!) of all ages and was so relaxed and unstructured it meant we were able to catch up properly with friends and make new ones. We had to drag them away after nearly 7 hours!!

The family day was the first official event hosted by Adopt Coast to Coast which as the Regional Adoption Agency for the North East and North West of England, unites adopters from all three local authorities, but it was just one of the many activities organised throughout the year by our three partners.
As part of our post-adoption support we provide regular opportunities for adopters to get-together. Not only is this a lovely way for adopters to see friends they have made throughout their adoption journey, but it also is the perfect way to meet new people too. The relaxed environments let people share experiences and discuss the highs and lows that come with parenting, with others that understand your circumstances.
The children also benefit from spending time with other adopted children and like their parents, many have built up strong friendships over the years. In some cases, the children were even able to meet up with their siblings who have been adopted by different families.
Our experienced team offer post-adoption support which is tailored to individual circumstances but could include services such as counselling, advice, duty line, regular e-news and post-adoption contact advice. We also offer training events and workshops, adoption groups and buddying up, social events and family support such as family therapy, psychology services, life story work, relationship breakdown, support services.
Thank you to all of our adopters who joined us for our very first event and we look forward to hosting even more in the future.
